WHAT HAPPENED?
Delap is said to have a release clause worth £30m that has kicked in after Ipswich's relegation to the Championship and the Blues, who are aiming to splash the cash again this summer, want to get a deal done for the England Under-21 international.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Any deal with Chelsea would be a huge blow for Manchester United, who themselves believe the signing is possible. Ruben Amorim's side are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer but their spending power could be defined by whether they win next week's Europa League final and qualify for the Champions League.

DID YOU KNOW?
Should Delap sign for Chelsea, he would be reuniting with Enzo Maresca, his academy coach at Manchester City. Delap was on City's books from 2019-24, before signing permanently for Ipswich.

WHAT NEXT FOR DELAP?
Delap has scored 12 Premier League goals in his first top-flight campaign and has two more opportunities to add to that tally before a likely summer move. Kieran McKenna's side play Leicester on Sunday and host West Ham on the final day of the season.
